If you were to ask any successful Internet marketer out there how to increase traffic to your website, you would receive a variety of tips, including writing articles, commenting on related blogs, getting involved in forums that relate to what you are selling and even social bookmarking.

The key here is that each task we just mentioned requires you to go provide a link to your website. This is what is known as backlinking. You cannot have a successful, highly ranked website that makes you money without creating backlinks. The key to creating backlinks is that you want to link with reputable websites so that it drives your ranking in the search engines up. A higher ranking webpage means that your webpage will be more likely to show up on the first and second page from the search engine results.
