Of course, it should also be mentioned that backlinks generally fall into one of two categories. They can either be one-way links, or they can be reciprocal links. Reciprocal backlinks are essentially a two-way street. In other words, when your site has a link to another site and that site in turn has a link to your site. A one-way link is just as the name implies. In other words, the site to which you link doesn’t have a link back to yours in return. Nowadays, one-way backlinks find the most favour from search engines, thus making them extremely desirable.

So, the million dollar question is, how do you get them? Ironically, the two most successful ways of getting one-way backlinks are also amongst the most difficult of options:

1. Having high ranking sites link to your site. Sites which have a high page ranking get priority as far as search engines are concerned and if such a site is linking to your site then search engines do take notice of it. Of course, if you have multiple sites you could choose to place links on those but for the most part, this is not usually a viable option. Another option is for you to approach webmasters of high ranking sites and ask them to place a link on their site. While some simply refuse to even discuss it, others are happy to help. Of course an offer to write one or two unique articles as a gesture of appreciation can go a long way as well.

2. The second method is article marketing but the challenge here is, you’re going to require a lot of articles if you want to be successful. In fact, this is exactly why so many people give up on article marketing, having written a few articles and not seen results. The truth of the matter is though; you’ll need at least twenty to thirty articles before you start reaping the benefits. Astonishingly enough, some of the top marketers use up to two hundred articles for each of the different sites they manage and while that’s a tremendous amount of work, it does obviously produce results.

Even for an experienced content writer, writing so many articles present to huge challenges. First of all, you’ll need to have unique subjects and eye catching titles. Remember, there are only so many aspects one can write about on a certain topic and if you only have one site, then this can be extremely challenging. The second problem is of course the time factor, considering it takes a lot of time to write so many articles. However, this issue can be addressed to a certain degree by outsourcing your writing needs. Providing the quality of the articles is high enough, the cost of outsourcing will soon be recovered.

Of course, for maximum results, you’ll need to distribute those articles to a variety of websites which in turn means those sites will then all have backlinks to your site. Once you’ve done this, you can sit back for a little while and wait for the traffic to start arriving but remember, you need to repeat this process over and over again.

The key here is that each task we just mentioned requires you to go provide a link to your website. This is what is known as backlinking. You cannot have a successful, highly ranked website that makes you money without creating backlinks. The key to creating backlinks is that you want to link with reputable websites so that it drives your ranking in the search engines up. A higher ranking webpage means that your webpage will be more likely to show up on the first and second page from the search engine results.

I’m going to reveal to you the five most effective tools that you should be using to get quality backlinks and drive massive traffic to your website.

Article Distribution

One of my favorite ways to get great backlinks is with article distribution. There are numerous places on the Internet where you can post the articles you write for free. There’s also services you can use that will take your article and send it hundreds of websites, usually for a fee, but there are some that do not charge anything. Here’s a list of free and paid article distribution services/software I highly recommend:

• Unique Article Wizard
• Article Post Robot
• Article Marketer
• Submit Your Article
• Article Submitter

The key here is that you write, or have someone else write, quality articles about topics that relate to what you are selling or promoting. In the resource box for the article, you include your website link and pertinent information about you that will make people want to read more about what you have to say, hence making them click on your link. Again, I cannot stress enough the importance of providing useful information. You should also spend some time finding out what the hot keywords are for you niche and incorporate those into your articles. Good keyword density drives traffic almost as much as backlinking and it is equally important.

To help you get started with article distribution, here is a list of article directories sorted by traffic and pagerank. I recommend you submit at least one article per day to the first top 10 directories and in a few weeks or so, you’ll start to see a substantial increase of traffic to your website.

Social Bookmarking

Relatively new, but awesome to use, these are sites where people can store, manage and share the websites they frequent the most. Typically, people put websites here that have provided them with good and useful information that they feel others would benefit from as well. You want to be on those social bookmarking pages. It is a lot like having a person walk into your business or store and be blown away by what you have to offer that they go out and tell everyone they know so that all of those people will come and visit your store. I call this free advertising! Free advertising is one thing you can never have enough of. Social bookmarking is a great way for you to get reliable and reputable backlinks.

Forum Posting

Online communities where a person can go to talk about a certain topic with other people that are interested in the same topic are known as forums. People go there to share knowledge that they have on the topic and learn new information to help them improve on what it is they are doing. What you need to do first is find the forums that relate to your niche. Establish yourself as someone that knows what they are talking about and has something to offer the community. Always make sure that you put your website link in the signature section of your post.

One of my favorite Internet marketing forum is the Warrior Forum. There, you’ll find a huge community of like-minded people who have many unanswered questions. This will be your opportunity to provide problem-solving solutions to the community and in turn, they will click on your link if they find that your information is helpful.

Blog Commenting

With over 71 million blogs on the Internet you simply cannot overlook the importance of commenting on blogs that are related to what you do. Just like with forum posting, you want to establish yourself as someone that people can trust, someone that provides useful information, so they click on your link to find out more about how you can help them.

By the way, my blog is a DoFollow blog, which means if you comment on my blog and include your website URL in the form field, the search engines will index and crawl your site.

Create A Viral Report

Viral marketing is basically a way for you to give information away in exchange for getting backlinks that will drive up traffic to your website. What most people do is create a report or an eBook that they give away for free. Whether you realize it or not you have landed on numerous viral reports, articles or landing pages when you have gone on the Internet to find information. They aren’t sales pages, or squeeze pages. The goal of the viral report really isn’t to try to sell the reader anything. You are giving them useful information, that they need, for free and within the report you are including the link to your website in various places such as the header, somewhere in the body a few times and again near the ending.

There you have it. I have laid out the perfect plan for you to increase traffic to your website. While it is okay for you to follow only one or two of my recommendations above, I highly suggest that you take the time to do them all. What is NoFollow?

The NoFollow attribute (rel=”nofollow”) is an HTML attribute that tells the search engines to bypass your links during indexing. Most blogs are installed with the default setting NoFollow, meaning that the URL in the comments are not followed by Google and other search engines. Unfortunately, it also means that legitimate commenters get penalized, since a NoFollow link is implicitly treated by the search engines as a vote against the page being linked to. However, I do not believe in punishing legitimate commenters, and by installing the DoFollow plugin, it allows Google and other search engines to follow and pass on the credit to the outbound link. What is DoFollow?

While NoFollow is an HTML attribute, DoFollow is actually an Internet slang term given to web pages or sites that are not utilizing NoFollow. In other words, blogs that remove or turn off the NoFollow attribute are rewarding the commenters for their contribution to a useful discussion.
