Facebook Tips: How to Increase Traffic to Your Site in 10 Easy Steps
by Tom Duong

Traffic Generation Add Comments

Facebook LogoIt simply cannot be denied, with more than 100 million people logging into Facebook each month, it’s the largest social networking site on the Internet today and as such, it’s a fantastic tool for driving traffic to your site. However, before you move in to exploit this awesome opportunity, you need to be familiar with the viral techniques which work in the Facebook platform, as outlined in this article.

1. Create a Facebook Network

Of course, before you can start putting all this to work, you first need to create a network of FaceBook friends. This can be done simply by joining a few of the groups which share something in common with regards to your product. Furthermore, you should also join a few groups you have an interest in.

Encourage the members in the groups you join to add you as a friend. Even go as far as asking members if you can be their friend, because after all, if you can get 20 people each day to include your name to their list of friends, you’ll have more than 1,000 friends within a couple of months.

2. Daily Status Update

Your status message should ideally be updated on a daily basis. Try to steer away from updating your blog with boring messages like “I am going to eat now” or “Heading off to work.” Instead, you should update your status using quotes from famous people, or interesting sayings which relate to the niche you’re interested in. You could also post links to interesting articles from your blog or articles you found on the Internet. Furthermore, you could also make use of jokes because at the end of the day, your intention should be to get peoples attention so they click on your profile.

3. Sending Daily Birthday Wishes

Because FaceBook shows the birthdays of those within your network, you have an opportunity to wish them happy birthday. However, rather than using the canned messages, you should write a nice personalized message on their walls.

Remember, in FaceBook, whenever you write on a member’s wall, everyone in the network will get an updated feed. Because of this, it’s crucial that you write a message that grabs everyone’s attention. The great thing is, you can create 10 or 20 first class attention grabbers and then simply customize them slightly for each friend.

4. Creating a Business Page

Over and above having a personal page, you should always create an interesting business page. Be sure to use this feature to your advantage by including logo for your business. This can then be used as your business page picture.

Additionally, you want members to become a fan of your business page so you’ll need to promote it via blogs, blog comments and social media like Twitter. Likewise, you can also use your business page in order to launch a FaceBook advertising campaign, and if you’re really serious about getting members to become fans, simply offer incentives for doing so like free ebooks and special reports.

5. Tag Photos Using Friends’ Names

In order to do this, simply upload all of your promotional photos to your business page and then tag them with the names of your friends, especially those friends who you deem to be the most influential. When you do this, your photos will appear in your friend’s new feeds. Once you’ve established a solid network of friends, you need to create a list of friends that have the highest number of friends and then you can all use each other’s names to tag photos with.

6. If Possible, Change Relationship Status on a Regular Basis

The reason for doing this is because not many people change their relationship status. In fact, because it’s one of the least frequent changes being made on FaceBook, they place a lot of importance on it. As a result, when you do go ahead and change your relationship status, FaceBook makes sure that everyone within your networks receives a news feed.

Of course, it was only a matter of time before clever marketers discovered this loophole and they have since been using it to their advantage in order to encourage people to look at their profile. In fact, some marketers change their relationship status as often as once a week but of course, it’s up to you if you wish to adopt this practice.

7. Attending Numerous Events

Ever true to the cause, FaceBook continues to be all about friends getting together for some or other event. In fact, FaceBook take this so seriously, they place a great amount of emphasis on such events in news feeds. Ideally, whether or not you can attend all events or not, you should still attempt to RSVP them.

The more events you’re seen to be attending, the more your friends will start seeing you as a valuable resource so of course, the more places your name shows up in, the better it is for you. Remember, when somebody keeps seeing your name getting mentioned, it’s only a matter of time before they check out your profile.

8. Blog Post

It’s crucial for you to import the RSS feeds from your blog, if you have one, into FaceBook. When you do this, FaceBook automatically publishes all your articles in the feed, into FaceBook notes. Furthermore, you should also try to encourage your friends to post comment in FaceBook notes with regards to your articles. Additionally, while it is in fact possible to tag friends in the articles, you need to avoid over-doing it.

9. Commenting on Popular Groups

Ideally, you should visit those groups which you’ve joined on a regular basis in order to post comments. As with blog comments, comments on groups will also achieve the same goal, in that it will help to increase the number of times your name is seen by others. However, you need to ensure your comments contain something of value. If not, then you could always post a link to something which you feel may add value to a specific group.

10. Hold Your Own Events

It’s certainly no great secret that events are enormously popular on FaceBook. In fact, providing of course that you organize it properly, the viral effect can be almost unbelievable and as such, it can attract thousands into registering for the event. Whatever you do, make sure you send out invitations to virtually each and every friend you have. Remember, they also all have plenty of friends and the chances are, they’ll be telling their friends about the event as well.

Okay, there you have it! I hope you like the 10 Facebook tips I provided above. You don’t have to use everyone one of them, but I’d love to know which one is your favorite or easiest one to do. Please let me know by leaving a comment below. Thanks!

These are wonderful tips on increasing traffic to your facebook site. Daily status updates are really effective. Even if you have no other posts, this would be a nice way to show the people on your network that your page is an active one, and is being constantly updated and monitored. Thanks!

Hey,

I don’t use Facebook. it seems way too complex of a method, and little increase, over such a large sum of time. My website generates roughly 2k+ UV’s a day, and it’s only been up for 24 days. Just posting on Yahoo! Answers, and updating several times a day, has gotten me loads of traffic.

Regards,

Just update whenever you have the time to spare. A few updates is better than no updates, right? By the way, I checked out your blog. Your blog theme looks really clean and easy to navigate, similar to a Thesis theme :)
