How to Increase Backlinks and Generate More Traffic to Your Website

If you were to ask any successful Internet marketer out there how to increase traffic to your website, you would receive a variety of tips, including writing articles, commenting on related blogs, getting involved in forums that relate to what you are selling and even social bookmarking.
The key here is that each task we just mentioned requires you to go provide a link to your website. This is what is known as backlinking. You cannot have a successful, highly ranked website that makes you money without creating backlinks. The key to creating backlinks is that you want to link with reputable websites so that it drives your ranking in the search engines up. A higher ranking webpage means that your webpage will be more likely to show up on the first and second page from the search engine results.
I’m going to reveal to you the five most effective tools that you should be using to get quality backlinks and drive massive traffic to your website.
Article Distribution
One of my favorite ways to get great backlinks is with article distribution. There are numerous places on the Internet where you can post the articles you write for free. There’s also services you can use that will take your article and send it hundreds of websites, usually for a fee, but there are some that do not charge anything. Here’s a list of free and paid article distribution services/software I highly recommend:
The key here is that you write, or have someone else write, quality articles about topics that relate to what you are selling or promoting. In the resource box for the article, you include your website link and pertinent information about you that will make people want to read more about what you have to say, hence making them click on your link. Again, I cannot stress enough the importance of providing useful information. You should also spend some time finding out what the hot keywords are for you niche and incorporate those into your articles. Good keyword density drives traffic almost as much as backlinking and it is equally important.
To help you get started with article distribution, here is a list of article directories sorted by traffic and pagerank. I recommend you submit at least one article per day to the first top 10 directories and in a few weeks or so, you’ll start to see a substantial increase of traffic to your website.
Social Bookmarking
Relatively new, but awesome to use, these are sites where people can store, manage and share the websites they frequent the most. Typically, people put websites here that have provided them with good and useful information that they feel others would benefit from as well. You want to be on those social bookmarking pages. It is a lot like having a person walk into your business or store and be blown away by what you have to offer that they go out and tell everyone they know so that all of those people will come and visit your store. I call this free advertising! Free advertising is one thing you can never have enough of. Social bookmarking is a great way for you to get reliable and reputable backlinks.
Forum Posting
Online communities where a person can go to talk about a certain topic with other people that are interested in the same topic are known as forums. People go there to share knowledge that they have on the topic and learn new information to help them improve on what it is they are doing. What you need to do first is find the forums that relate to your niche. Establish yourself as someone that knows what they are talking about and has something to offer the community. Always make sure that you put your website link in the signature section of your post.
One of my favorite Internet marketing forum is the Warrior Forum. There, you’ll find a huge community of like-minded people who have many unanswered questions. This will be your opportunity to provide problem-solving solutions to the community and in turn, they will click on your link if they find that your information is helpful.
Blog Commenting
With over 71 million blogs on the Internet you simply cannot overlook the importance of commenting on blogs that are related to what you do. Just like with forum posting, you want to establish yourself as someone that people can trust, someone that provides useful information, so they click on your link to find out more about how you can help them.
By the way, my blog is a DoFollow blog, which means if you comment on my blog and include your website URL in the form field, the search engines will index and crawl your site.
Create A Viral Report
Viral marketing is basically a way for you to give information away in exchange for getting backlinks that will drive up traffic to your website. What most people do is create a report or an eBook that they give away for free. Whether you realize it or not you have landed on numerous viral reports, articles or landing pages when you have gone on the Internet to find information. They aren’t sales pages, or squeeze pages. The goal of the viral report really isn’t to try to sell the reader anything. You are giving them useful information, that they need, for free and within the report you are including the link to your website in various places such as the header, somewhere in the body a few times and again near the ending.
There you have it. I have laid out the perfect plan for you to increase traffic to your website. If you are promoting or selling a product on your website, this means you’ll also see an increase in sales, which means more money in your pocket. While it is okay for you to follow only one or two of my recommendations above, I highly suggest that you take the time to do them all. I suggest you install it too! All you have to do is download and activate the DoFollow plugin from Semiologic on your blog and download your choice of graphics in several colors to match your blog design.

Backlinks are getting harder to get because Google has clamped down on paid links. Also I agree articles are best in getting backlinks but what if your not a good writer?

I agree with Tom. Article marketing is an excellent marketing tool, but creating the content can be hard at times. Depending on your market you should be able to outsource the articles. That will save you time and you won’t have to write them yourself.

Submitting articles to article directories is such a good thing.
I have done this to all my sites.
As article directory owner, I recommended to use article submission service than to use robot like article marketer and unique article wizard. The article that I got from this server mostly have good quality.
Actually, Article Marketer and Unique Article Wizard are NOT article distribution softwares. They are article distribution services.
Basically, they do the majority of the tedious work for you like submitting to all the article directories and you don’t even have to sign up an account for each directory.
Having said that, they do charge a monthly rate.
The bottom line is, if you want to save time, go with the article distribution services. If you want to save money, go with the software like Article Post Robot instead.
I’m a big fan of blog commenting. Like you say, there are lots of blogs on there and the excellent “u comment i follow” movement is a great help in this form of online marketing. Great blog post.

If I may, backlinks are indeed good for SEO and building PR, but you forgot to mention in this particular post that PR has to do with keywords and that better backlinks must use keywords as anchor texts.
Of course, it would be rather unethical to be using keywords as names in blog commenting, I meant in sign lines for articles.

Thanks Dan for pointing that out. If you want to rank for a particular keyword, make sure you use the same anchor text multiple times to ensure you get better page rankings.

Concept of free digital downloads makes a good sense in driving traffic. The word free is very viral, which i think would bring a lot of traffic to the website.

What if i submitted an article to many article directories? Is it allowed?
Yes, you can submit the same article to other directories. There is no such thing as a duplicate content penalty. The only exception is you cannot post the same content within the same domain. For example, you cannot have two identical posts at YourDomain.com.
There are nice tips to increase traffic. some social sites are nofollow types. can we get any backlink from them?

Viral marketing is the one that we all aspire to get right, and consistently so. All the other methods of link building have fairly predictable results, but hitting the right viral marketing buzz will literally mean 1000′s of links and hits coming in thick and fast. Hopefully your server doesn’t crash! As I said however, we are talking about the holy grail here, and getting consistent results is a mighty challenge.
besides these methods you’ve mentioned,I’ve tried video upload,directory submit,squidoo and hubpages.some of the keywords rank well in the SERPs,but I’m still working on it
I’ve try using Viral Report methods but it don’t really work to me because I stuck don’t know how to make people notice my report and grab it.

Yes Viral Marketing helps a lot. Also, there must be some solid reason for customers to help spread your word. Creating a qualitative content as well as enticing them by offering some incentives will be added benefit
I think other viral content like WordPress themes can be a great way to build links back to a website. Also, widgets which can be installed on blogs and websites are another excellent link building method.
