It seems to me that many people feel WordPress is either too difficult to use, or simply not worth the effort. Well, in my opinion, it all boils down to the fact that there are five secrets which most people don’t even know about:
1. WordPress.com and WordPress.org – this is where the confusion starts.
The first one, WordPess.com, hosts on their own servers while WordPress.org on the other hand, allows you to decide where you want your blog hosted, which effectively puts you in full control.
Hey, isn’t it wonderful to know that you own the blog and not somebody else?
2. WordPress is nowhere near as difficult or as confusing as many people tend to believe.
What most people overlook is the fact that WordPress makes two platforms available. Hey, if you’re anything like me, and you have some technical skills or IT skills, then simply choose the advanced platform and leave the basic one to all those non-techie people out there.
Really, at the end of the day we can’t complain because both versions are free.
3. Does the thought of making money from your blog sound appealing to you. If it does, then you need to use a blogging platform which offers plug-ins which will allow you to take advantage of Adsense and other affiliate programs.
Another point which so many don’t seem to know about is the fact that WordPress.com doesn’t allow commercial blogs. If you want to monetize your blog, you’ll need a self-hosted platform, in other words, you’ll need the .org version.
4. The WordPress.org platform is virtually maintenance free. Installing plug-ins is a complete breeze, as is backing up your blog database. Even moving your entire blog to an alternative server couldn’t be any easier.
5. I must admit, I also feel that one of the best things about using the .org platform is that I can actually integrate it into my website, so gone are the days of dealing with code all the time.
Above all else, you need to realize that WordPress isn’t limited to the five secrets I’ve just mentioned.
What’s your favorite blogging platform and why?

I agree with you Tom. WordPress is the best platform out there. You don’t need to have any coding skills and the learning curve is short. This is great as it lets you focus on writing on good content instead of fiddling with design and coding issues.
Thanks Sebastien for your feedback. Also, WordPress has a lot of great themes to suit anybody’s preference. And switching between themes is virtually one click away. Upgrading your WordPress blogging platform is now even easier with version 2.7 and higher.
Thanks for the great info Tom. I’m still new in blogging and I’m using the free one (.com), maybe in the near future I’ll switch to dot org.
btw, thanks for following me on twitter. Now, I’m your new follower too, and I’m also bookmarking your site
This is so true Tom! I even have “canned responses” ready in my mail account as I keep writing replies about this… the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org etc…
Yeah, most newbies think that only one version of WordPress exist until they find out later. The ones that start off with the .com version usually end up installing the .org version just because it offers greater versatility.
